How many transistors are in an Apple M1 chip?
16 billion
Background
The Apple M1 chip holds 16 billion transistors on a piece the size of a fingernail. Each transistor is only a few atoms wide. The first Intel chip from 1971 had just 2,300 transistors. This density is why modern laptops are so fast and power-efficient. Apple introduced the M1 in November 2020.
