Background

Frenchman Nicephore Niepce took the world's first photograph in 1826. He needed eight hours of exposure time on a pewter plate. The photo shows the view from his study in Burgundy. The image still exists today and hangs in a museum in Texas. The first camera phones came 174 years later.
