In which country was the tango invented?

Argentina

Background

Tango was born in the port districts of Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century. Immigrants from Europe and Africa and the local population mixed their music and dances. At first tango was seen as scandalous and banned in high society. Only after its success in Paris around 1910 did it become acceptable in Argentina. Today tango is officially a Unesco cultural heritage.
