Mickey Mouse premiered in November 1928 at the Colony Theater in New York. The film was called Steamboat Willie and was the first cartoon with sound. Walt Disney himself voiced Mickey. The mouse was originally called Mortimer, but Walt's wife Lillian found the name boring. Today Mickey Mouse is the most famous cartoon character in the world.
