How many colors do most Stone Age cave paintings have?

Three to four

Background

Stone Age painters mostly used only three or four colors: red, yellow, black and white. The colors came from earth, charcoal, and minerals. The Lascaux caves in France are about 17,000 years old. Some paintings were only seen again by people in 1940. The cave is now closed to visitors because breath damages the colors.
