Background
The Cullinan I weighs 530 carats and sits in the king's scepter. The rough stone was found in South Africa in 1905. At that time it weighed 3106 carats and was the largest diamond ever found. A cutter in Amsterdam needed eight months to work on it. He split the stone into nine large and many small diamonds.
