There are 23 crocodile species in the world. This includes true crocodiles, alligators, and gharials. The biggest is the saltwater crocodile at over six meters long. The smallest reaches only about 1.5 meters. All crocodiles are very ancient animals, similar to the ones from dinosaur times.
