How many legs does a millipede have?

typically 80–400 (record: 1,306)

Background

Millipedes actually have only 80 to 400 legs. So the name is misleading. In 2020, researchers in Australia discovered a species with more than 1,000 legs. It's called Eumillipes persephone. The record holder has 1,306 legs on about 100 body segments. The leg count grows with age. Each time a millipede molts, new segments are added.
