How many eggs does a queen bee lay per day?

up to 2,000

Background

In spring, a healthy queen bee lays up to 2,000 eggs a day. That's more than her own body weight. Each egg goes into its own comb cell. Fertilized eggs become worker bees or new queens. Unfertilized eggs become male drones. A queen can keep this up for three to five years. After that, the colony replaces her with a younger successor.
